Google trends 2018: Read customers’ minds with top searched keywords
Google Thailand announced its Year in Search 2018 and it not only tells us about what happened in the digital world last year, but also gives us some clues about the trends in the upcoming year, at a time when everybody depends on search engines.
What did Thais search for on Google last year? Let’s find the answers below.
Google reported that ‘13 Wild Boars Academy’, the news about the twelve boys and Mr Ekkapol who entered Tham Luang cave on June 23 and were trapped inside by high floodwaters for 10 days, was ranked first and the keyword ‘ข่าวถ้ำหลวง 13 ชีวิต’ was the most searched keyword for 2018.
What have brands done about this trend? We observed that some made donations to rescue and support teams and some created content for moral support. All activities engaged audiences and rewarded companies with a better brand image.
The most searched keywords in the category of people was still a star, Peeranee Kongthai (Matt) was ranked the no.1 talk-of-the-town topic on Google Search as her dating with A-list celebrity, Songkran Techanarong, is so hot.
It’s noteworthy that all the top 4 ranks related to celebrities because Thais have a strong interest in celebrity news. That’s why influencer marketing or advertising via celebrity is the best practice to create viral campaigns when compared with the other methods.
The experimental clip about teenage fashion in Siam Center made ‘Murakami flower’, the accessory designed by pop-art artist Takashi Murakami, go viral and became the 1st ranked keyword on Google search.
Thanks to its colourfulness, Murakami flower was searched for and bought by the majority of Thais.
Other merchandise that climbed into the top searched keywords are the brand new iPhone 8, Honda CPX 2018 and Mitsubishi XPANDER. Obviously, you can see that 2 of 5 products come from the automobile industry so it could imply that Google Search is the first port of call when consumers want to research about cars.
So, car dealers need to secure their selling opportunities by creating fabulous e-commerce pages and raise them to rank first on Google Search. How? Landing Pages and Google Adwords can help you out and if you don’t know how… Please contact our experts here.
Keywords of the year
Guessed right? Absolutely! The winner is ‘Buppae Sunniwas’, the Thai period drama about a fated couple in the old capital Ayutthaya, which gained an incredible rating and created an ‘Or-Choaw fever’ phenomenon in every field. Brands which successfully rode this trend were rewarded with a great number of Shares and Likes.
Keywords about drama were not the only ones searched, other ‘Or-Choaw fever’ related words also went viral on Google. Trends such as ‘วิธีทำหมูโสร่ง’ or how to cook Moo-Sarong menu, ‘วิธีนุ่งโจงกระเบน’ or how to wear the Thai skirt and ‘อยุธยา’ or Ayutthaya.
As you can see, Thais rely heavily on Google Search and you will miss this chance to sell if your businesses disappear from Google. Losing sales and losing to competitors…
Don’t let your brands be like that!
